CDW-G is seeking a Lead, Lab Engineer who is versatile, experienced, and enthusiastic to solve our customer’s challenging problems in Defense and/or National Security environments. A successful candidate will have a passion for solving technical challenges, voiding warranties, building hardware and software solutions, and learning new skills.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide management oversight and engineering support to CDW-G’s Technology Enablement Center (TEC) in San Diego, CA. The TEC is a premier evaluation facility for client-focused technology assessments, proof of concepts, and architectural review. Our goal is to help clients explore and examine technical integration and migration concepts and options prior to purchasing or placing technologies in their environment.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Primary responsibilities include the overall management of the CDW-G Technical Enablement Center (TEC). Primary duties listed below:
- Manage a 1,500 sq. ft, $15+-million lab with over 50 partners, 15 racks of technology, and 1 petabyte of storage in San Diego, CA.
- Leverage strong knowledge of large systems and datacenters, covering: network, security, storage, compute, virtualization, connectivity (i.e. fiber, cloud, etc.) to effectively build, run, and manage TEC solutions.
- Work with CDW-G partners to onboard new products in the TEC.
- Lead asset management processes to ensure accountability of TEC inventory.
- Work with CDW-G presales and customer account teams to develop relevant solutions and capabilities.
- Lead CDW-G executive client briefings and client focused “TEC Talks”.
- Develop and adhere to SLA’s.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least seven (7) years of experience developing and implementing complex IT infrastructure solutions.

- Demonstrated ability to understand large systems and data centers.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver new solution offerings.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and/or maintain system documentation (design diagrams, physical & logical topology diagrams, wiring diagrams, rack elevations, and etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to configure and sustain physical/virtual networking, physical/virtual storage, server virtualization, desktop virtualization, automation & orchestration, Active Directory, PKI, encryption certificates, & various open source technologies.
- Demonstrated strong presentation and communication skills to executive level clients.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize workload under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to create repeatable procedures and automation of those procedures where possible.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BA/BS in business or technology related discipline, or 10+ years of equivalent industry experience.
- Experience in managing or supporting a datacenter.
- Experience in presales and post-sales delivery.
- Experience designing and deploying technical solutions.
- Experience with vulnerability scanning and security posture.
- Experience with MFA systems such as Duo / Okta / etc.
- Technical background:
- Cisco CCNA or CCNP (or similar).
- VMware VCP or VCAP (or similar).
- WAN and LAN Experience.
- Information Security or Network Security Experience.
- DoD 8570 level II IAT certification
Salary range: $150,000 - $178,000, depending on experience and skill set
Annual bonus target of $1000 subject to terms and conditions of plan
