Summary
 

We are seeking a highly experienced NBS Systems Engineer to support deployment, configuration, maintenance, and support for the NEDSS (National Electronic Disease Surveillance System) project, an online disease surveillance system used by public health jurisdictions for analysis, data collection and reporting to the CDC.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Provide expert-level knowledge and support for existing NBS deployments in public health jurisdictions

• Manage application configuration for new NBS deployments in public health jurisdictions

• Manage application support, troubleshooting, and issue resolution for NBS and related software components.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze requirements.

• Contribute to the overall success of the project by delivering high-quality solutions.

• Comfortable working in an agile and lean environment to routinely deploy changes.

Education and/or Skill-Set Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years’ experience configuring and deploying applications in public health jurisdictions

• 7+ years’ experience in support, troubleshooting, and issue resolution in public health jurisdictions

• Experience managing infrastructure in public health jurisdictions

• Experience with log analysis and debugging

• Understanding of metrics, monitoring, alarming and dashboarding concept

• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and/or distributed systems

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Strong attention to detail

• Self-motivated, proactive, energetic and tenacious

• Excellent analytical, problem solving and resolution skills

• Strong sense of ownership and responsibility

• An interest in continuous improvement, innovation, and simplification

• The ability to translate business problems into practical, scalable technical solutions

Preferred Qualifications

• 7+ years’ professional experience configuring and deploying the NBS application

• 7+ years’ experience in support, troubleshooting, and issue resolution for the NBS application

• Familiarity with Public Health Surveillance Systems.

• Experience with ETL tools/development.

• Experience with HL7 standards and messaging.

• Previous experience working on CDC or other government projects.

• Experience with SAS Reporting.

• Public Health development experience.
