The Sales Tax Senior – Research and Special Projects plays a critical role within the Sales Tax function by managing the sales tax aspects of various business initiatives, researching the taxability of products and services that CDW offers to its customers, and coordinating the unclaimed property process.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Manage the sales tax aspects of changes to CDW’s accounting and invoicing systems due to changes to our business or changes in tax law. Responsibilities include identifying and documenting project requirements, creating test cases to perform during UAT, organizing and leading cross functional meetings to ensure stakeholders are informed and project is progressing as scheduled and providing periodic updates to tax management as to the status of multiple projects.
  • Independently perform multi-state research to determine the appropriate taxability of new offerings and existing complex products or services as well as preparing memorandum containing tax analysis and conclusions
  • Independently perform multi-state research to respond to unclaimed property inquiries, liaise with multiple departments to timely and accurately report unclaimed property, and effectively manage relationship with compliance provider.
  • Develop and maintain training guides, taxability matrices or other tools that members of the sales tax department can use to effectively and efficiently respond to inquiries from internal or external customers
  • Support sales tax audits by gathering relevant supporting documentation
  • Perform other ad-hoc duties as required by needs of the sales tax department

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 4 years of relevant sales and use tax experience

Other Required Qualifications

  • Must possess advanced knowledge of sales tax laws and aptitude to perform complex tax research
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and drive progress of cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain productive, cross-functional working relationships
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously and adapt to changing needs of the business, all while providing high quality work and meeting deadlines
  • Strong organization and planning skills with critical attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting or business
  • Working knowledge of financial software tools such as IBM iSeries, PeopleSoft, and Vertex
  • Working knowledge of unclaimed property laws and compliance process
