The Director of Global Security, Safety, and Business Continuity is responsible for assessing and managing security risks for all CDW locations. This role formulates strategy, policy, and related initiatives to protect human, financial, and physical assets of CDW including all aspects of security, safety, and business continuity.
This position involves planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing a team of coworkers as well as providing guidance and direction to the workforce regarding security and safety procedures and policies. This role works closely with senior management to formulate and maintain incident management policies, as well as develop, manage and communicate organization-wide crisis, natural disaster and security policies. This role reports directly to the Chief Human Resource Officer.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Responsible for protecting human, financial, and physical assets for CDW globally, including assessment and prevention, preparing for and managing adverse events or incidents, as well as those that may negatively impact CDW’s brand
- Conducts proper emergency response and business continuity planning to assess potential risks and hazards to each location and their potential business impact. Design, implement, and exercise mitigation plans to minimize safety risk to coworkers, business loss to company, customer impact, shareholder impact, and reputational impact.
- Leads the 24/7 response team and establish a command center in time of crisis, disaster or a security issue.
- Builds relationships with, alerts, collaborates, and complies with federal, state, local and global authorities (public law enforcement, fire and other agencies) related to security. Cooperate with other agency personnel that may become engaged in an investigation (FBI, police departments, other corporate security or legal organizations). Develop plans for the detection of wrongdoing.
- Responsible for maintaining a network of liaisons across all locations to execute safety and security practices.
- Develops and oversees security, emergency response, and travel policies, procedures and training for operations globally. Monitors environmental changes and adjust policies with key stakeholders, including IT, Operations, Facilities, Finance, Investor and Public Relations team, Coworker Services, and Legal.
- Develop and manage process for review and evaluation of organizational readiness. Ensure that adequate systems are in place to measure and report losses, recoveries, and incidents/
- Reviews and recommends security metrics, including preventative equipment and audits security equipment condition.
- Oversee safety programs including HAZMAT, Fall Protection, Hazardous Communication, Bloodborne Pathogen, Hearing Conservation, Spill Protection, safe lifting, PPE, and forklift safety to ensure compliance to federal, state, and local codes (OSHA & Employer and Work Place Safety Requirements) and to help reduce injuries and costs of injuries.
- Oversee investigations of suspected losses and/or coworker or visitor wrongdoing (theft, drug use, abusive behavior). Provide thorough reports to management regarding the results of the investigations including recommendations for process improvement to prevent future risk of loss.
- Keep current on industry standards, trends, and innovation in safety, security, and business continuity to educate the organization on best practices and threat response. Ensure processes are consistent with best business practices and integrated organizationally.
- Employ tactics like social media mining to proactively identify issues or threats.
- Conducts appropriate in-person, video, or computer-based training
Education and/or Experience Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, security or a closely related field, or equivalent number of years of experience
- 10 years experience in security, law enforcement, military, and/or loss prevention.
- 8 years experience with Corporate Safety Programs, OSHA compliance and injury reduction strategies
- 6 years experience in emergency and business continuity plan building, testing/exercising, audit, and maintenance.
- 8 years progressive leadership experience.
Other Required Qualifications
- Track record of appropriately building, implementing, and exercising global business continuity plans and managing a crisis or disaster situation.
- Experience with and the ability to effectively manage dangerous, ambiguous, high-stress and high-stakes situations.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy into department, product, or program strategy
- Successful history of building strong bench strength that accounts for succession planning.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Ability to exchange accurate information with coworkers about issues, in addition to being able to physically inspect premises during investigations.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as a copy machine and computer printer.
- Working knowledge of CCTV, security monitoring systems, and loss prevention practices.
- History of handling sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of schedules, tight deadlines, and competitive demands
- Ability to travel extensively – both domestically and internationally (estimated between 25% and 40%)
- Master’s Degree
- Board certified in security management with a Certified Professional Protection certification (CPP)
- MBCP certification (Master of Business Continuity Planning)
- Law enforcement experience
- Firearm license
- Wicklander & Zuwlowski interviewing and interrogation training or equivalent.
