As part of CDW’s Digital Velocity Solutions (DVS) organization, Solutions Architects engage with CDW presales, clients, and internal teams to design, develop and implement automated, cloud native pattern solutions primarily to private cloud Kubernetes instances. Solutions Architects design and architect solutions based on Statement of Work (SoW) criteria and as needed, also provide private cloud engineering of designed solutions. This role is expected to have thought leadership as well as deep technical knowledge in core areas pertaining to Kubernetes and cloud native automation and DevOps solutions.


Key areas of responsibility

  • Provide Professional Services Delivery within CDW’s DVS organization with expertise in VMware Tanzu, OpenShift, or Rancher.
  • Billable consultant providing Kubernetes architecture, cloud native pattern design and private cloud engineering solutions to DVS clients 
  • Partnering with the DVS Pre-Sales Team, translate client needs and vision outlined within SoWs into workable best practice solutions
  • Cloud Native architectural design, presentation and implementation lead to support cloud native automation solutions at scale
  • Hybrid of technical leadership and engineering delivery of Cloud Native automation solutions including, but not limited to; Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Kubernetes /, Containers, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps tooling, etc.
  • Creation and delivery of as needed workshops, knowledge transfer sessions etc. to clients in order to ensure solution adoption and permanence
  • Training, mentoring and code / work review of cloud engineer team members as necessary for hybrid private and public cloud solutions
  • Operate as part of a team leveraging agile and scrum methodologies
  • Meet training and certification requirements for applicable technologies (Tanzu, OpenShift, Rancher, HashiCorp Terraform & Vault, CKA, etc.)
  • Travel estimate up to 15%
  • Internal projects when applicable

Education and/or Experience qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in design and implementation of architecture and automated private/public cloud solutions
  • Knowledge and skill level in identified competencies meet minimum requirements for role
  • Previous direct customer consulting experience or equivalent understanding of role responsibilities

Required qualifications

  • Highly proficient in VMware Tanzu (or PKS) or RedHatOpenShift
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cloud native platforms and awareness of multi-cloud solutions and capabilities
  • Experience with end-to-end scalable Kubernetes architecture design and solution implementation for organizations of varying size
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions with Terraform, Ansible or equivalent IaC automation tools and technologies
  • Working knowledge of various on-premise connectivity options through firewalls and to public cloud network security groups and routing
  • Experience deploying and managing virtual machines in VMware vCenter
  • Experience working with Git and CI/CD pipelines
  • Design and implementation experience of container solutions including orchestration with Kubernetes and associated tooling
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes cluster design and implementation
  • Working knowledge of GitHub, GitLab, and/or Azure DevOps
  • Experience developing workshop and presentation content with slides, artifacts, etc. and presenting technical solutions to audiences of varying technical knowledge
  • Experience working as a team member within an agile environment
  • Demonstrated ability to speak to business value of public cloud solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as role must be able to conduct client facing conversations to drive success in consulting engagements
  • Demonstrate solid interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with delivery engineering teams
  • Ability to create diagrams or visuals that represent proposed architectures using standard diagraming tools (MS Visio, PowerPoint, Lucidchart,, etc.)
  • Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology
  • Ability to take on multiple assigned tasks, organize, and prioritize

Preferred qualifications

  • Desired Certifications: Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
  • Preferred Certifications: Tanzu, Rancher, or OpenShift Certification
  • Additional technology areas and experience: Linux, PowerShell, BASH Scripting, Python automation tooling, additional scripting languages, additional software development languages, data experience, networking experience
  • Experience working as a consultant within professional services
