The Engineer - Data Center Operations will be responsible for 24x7x365 support and availability of the data center facility to our customers/clients.  The role will be responsible for the development & enforcement of processes, quality assurance, standards and policies that are set forth within the Sirius Data Centers and providing a direct level of support to our clients/customers including daily operational requests (e.g. remote hand tickets) and during escalations.  

This role will interact with sales/solutions on a regular basis to ensure that services being sold can be met within the timeframes that are being committed to,  along with then being the first level of integration to get the client successfully implemented and on-boarded into the data center.  This role will look at tool-set integration & management of these tools to ensure that they are effectively designed and implemented within the organization and provide the value that they were purchased for.   

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities 

Customer Integration/Site Availability:   

  • Ensure customers are integrated correctly within the environment and all process/procedures are being followed and enforced and compliance is being met.   
  • Ensure site is being maintained and readily available to all customers on a daily basis.  
  • Take lead on remote hands and other miscellaneous client tickets to make sure they are properly assigned and processed per our SLA and contract obligations.  
  • Support onboarding of new customer projects which can include project management functions and engaging with our subcontractors. 

Sales Engagements:   

  • Work with sales teams to help support client opportunities for data center services which can include tours, briefings, RFP responses, and helping with colocation proposals as needed. 

Continuous Improvement:   

  • Continue to look for ways to define and enhance the organizational support and processes to our customers/clients to better our level of service that we provide them at all times 

Performance Metrics:   

  • Create/define measurable performance metrics that can be used to show that service level delivery is being met within a timely fashion and that are escalations are being treated within an expedited manner 
  • Training/Certifications - Engages in professional development, including obtaining industry related certifications as directed by management, to maintain continued growth in professional skills and knowledge 
  • Administrative Overhead – Respond to email, phone calls, complete time cards in a timely manner, expense reports and status reports as required 

Basic Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field 
  • Minimum three (3) years of Information Technology work experience, to include:   
  • Three (3) or more years of data center technical experience, with a combination of both data center engineering and operations experience 
  • Three (3) or more years of direct client/consulting interaction  

Other Required Qualifications:    

  • Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of data center tasks such as structure cabling pathways, grounding, cabinet layout, racking and stacking, fiber optic and copper patching, and PDU installation. 
  • Demonstrated ability to interact face to face with clients and support and justify their requests 
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with cross-functional teams across various skillsets and shifts 
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and proactively act in an emergent or production issue scenario 
  • Demonstrated ability to multi task and adapt from critical task to the next seamlessly 
  • Proven client-facing interpersonal skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret clients’ requests, and ensure their requirements are understood and can be met and delivered within a timely manner  
  • Demonstrated ability to work with ServiceNow, Excel, Exchange, Salesforce and other applications that support the data center operations 

Preferred Qualifications:        

  • Five (5) or more years of data center technical experience  
  • Two (2) or more years of experience onboarding clients into colocation services  
  • ITIL Foundation  
  • Prior data center certificates/training

  • Participate at hire and annually in the Information Security Awareness training as well as other required training identified by the Human Resources department.  Other data privacy and data security related regulatory training may be required based on your role or assignment 

Essential Functions 
This position exists to provide technical consulting solutions to customers in a 24x7x365 data center facility, and so requires the ability to respond as needed to client requests during weekends, holidays, and non-standard hours.
