The Enterprise Software Architect is a principal consultant that engages with clients and internal teams to provide design and engineering activities across a large breadth of software projects and solutions. This role is expected to be a thought and technical leader in the areas of software and related infrastructure and engineering techniques for complex software development projects provided for our customer. This is a hands-on technical position where the individual participates with members of the team in architectural discussions and implementing architectural projects. The Enterprise Software Architect is also responsible for working with OCTO and management to align delivery teams on best practices and upskilling engineering resources.

As an Enterprise Software Architect, you must be able to handle multiple projects, be innovative, and be able to communicate effectively across multiple departments in different degrees of technical detail. The responsibilities include mentoring engineers or architects and overseeing projects that are part of your expertise.  In addition, an Enterprise Software Architect is responsible for taking a company's business strategy and defining the technical roadmap and architecture to support that strategy.

  • Solve complex software engineering tasks
  • Troubleshoot and solve code level problems quickly and efficiently
  • Establish and follow coding standards and practices
  • Collaborate with members of an architecture SCRUM team to ensure success (Product Owners, Engineers, QA, Designer)
  • Participate in SCRUM related events such as Sprint Planning, Retrospectives and Backlog Grooming
  • Communicate effectively with team members, internal and external customers
  • Stay current with industry standard tools and technologies
  • Perform risk analysis on business related software initiatives
  • Comfortable working with little to no supervision and providing supervision to other engineers
  • Mentor and train software engineers
  • Take the lead on challenging software engineering projects
  • Provide architectural expertise for the implementation of key initiatives
  • Participate in the hiring process including attracting, screening, and closing high caliber candidates
  • Participate in strategic planning meetings with product management, architecture and design
  • Build cross-department relationships centered on executing company strategy
  • Work with the key stakeholders to plan and coordinate enterprise wide initiatives
  • Engage in architectural proof of concept projects at a micro-level of detail to keep current on technology
  • Motivate and inspire developers and evangelize a set of ideals for the enterprise
  • Foster repeatable and reusable architectural processes
  • Review architectural aspects of initiative across the enterprise and products to aid in ensuring success of the design process
  • Contribute to the technology strategy and implementation as it relates to the business strategy and objectives by performing discovery research, cost estimates and reference model development
  • Provide guidance for encapsulating and isolating legacy systems as well as support targeted transitions of features to at-scale architectural patterns based on business goals
  • Work with engineering to integrate enterprise technologies, for example api gateways, microservice platforms, federated authentication, at-scale persistence technologies
  • Professional services delivery for DVS/CDW customers globally on major Public Cloud platforms
  • Aggregate oversight of technical solutions across multiple projects to ensure synergy in our approach and broad visibility to the solutions delivery team
  • Performing Billable work at other DVS clients (Consulting Engagements)
  • Presales consulting on occasion for Software/Cloud/DevOps projects
  • Helping DVS develop and mature our Software Engineering practice areas in response to client needs and market demand
  • Travel estimate is 30%
  • Internal projects when applicable

Education and/or Skill-Set Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience and knowledge
  • 10+ years of experience in software architecture & development of private/public cloud targeted solutions
  • Mastery with architectural design recommendation and guidance
  • Proven success leading engineering teams in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Expert in building enterprise SaaS cloud-based solutions
  • Demonstrated success leading the design, development, delivery and maintenance of large scale and high-performance platforms
  • Expert in release management and deployment workflow processes, from development release through production deployment
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build productive cross-departmental relationships and motivate team members. Positive, can-do attitude and value collaboration a must
  • Broad expertise across programming languages, runtimes, systems, and infrastructure
  • Knowledge and skill level in identified competencies meet minimum requirements for role
  • Previous direct customer consulting experience or equivalent understanding of role responsibilities

Required Qualifications

  • Expert in modern software design and development patterns, cloud native application designs, distributed systems, event based systems, Microservices, containers and serverless
  • Proficient in a variety of software and scripting languages, frameworks and associated practices such as Microsoft .NET, Java, Python, Golang, JavaScript / TypeScript, AngularJS, ReactJS, backend and front end design patterns
  • Demonstrated understanding of automation design, CI/CD pipelines and SDLC methodologies
  • Demonstrated understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), immutable infrastructure patterns, templating,Terraform/Ansible or equivalent provisioning and configuration technologies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of public cloud platforms, aware of multi-platform solutions and capabilities
  • Highly proficient in public clouds (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Demonstrated ability to speak to business value of modern software and cloud NATIVE solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, must be able to document, diagram, and lead client facing conversations to drive success in consulting engagements
  • Demonstrate solid interpersonal skills, able to mentor and guide internal engineering and personnel technical development teams
  • Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information
  • Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology
  • Ability to multitask, organize and prioritize
  • Ability to apply common sense while engaging with customers and providing solutions
  • Ability to understand and follow complex instructions and guidelines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep experience with Azure enterprise scale and global design
  • Additional technology areas and experience: API management, distributed systems, analytical workloads, Cloud platform specific automation tooling, additional scripting languages, additional software development languages, data experience, networking experience
  • Previous consulting or servant leader experience
