In March 2020, CDW issued a companywide work-from-home order for office coworkers. In one weekend, we were able to transition the majority of our workforce to work from home, ensuring coworkers were equipped with the right technology and connections to work efficiently and hit the ground running.
Thereafter, CDW leadership began providing weekly updates to coworkers on breaking news, important health & safety reminders and working from home resources. These weekly communications provided updates and transparency to our coworkers as we continued throughout the year. In addition, CDW conducted check-in surveys to listen to our coworkers and to understand any current challenges and concerns.
Now, over a year later, we reflect upon how CDW supported and continues to support our coworkers, customers and communities throughout the pandemic.
With the majority of CDW working virtually, teams collaborated and came together in unique ways to support their physical and mental well-being. Activities included step challenges, a Strava Club, virtual 5Ks and weekly meditations. In addition, our Benefits team shared a monthly wellness calendar promoting CDW benefits, workshops, and activities related to a different wellness topic.
CDW’s distribution centers across the globe remained open and our essential distribution center coworkers have continued to report to work each day to support the needs of our customers. Across our distribution centers, CDW implemented social distancing guidelines, separate shifts, deep cleaning twice daily, screening processes and the necessary personal protective equipment to keep our coworkers safe. In addition, our safety team implemented weekly audits to provide timely feedback on ways to improve coworker safety and business continuity.
The CDW Kids Club was officially formed at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic with the mission to help our CDW parents and CDW kids navigate life at home together. The Kids Club provided regular activity ideas for parents to keep quarantined kids busy while they worked from home. This club later evolved to become a source for support and resources for parents navigating e-learning for the first time. Activities included: virtual cooking lessons, yoga and exercise classes, art classes, story-time, music and more. This club later evolved to become support and a source for resources and tips for parents navigating e-learning for the first time.
At CDW, our Circle of Service has always put the customer at the center of everything we do. CDW has consistently and successfully evolved in order to help our customers solve their ever-changing technology challenges. While CDW was enabling our own workforce to work from home, our teams were helping our customers navigate through the uncertainties at the same time. A few examples of ways we helped our customers navigate during the pandemic include:
Created a complete remote learning environment for students in a school district in Ohio. Our teams helped the district with devices and developed a collaboration platform for its teachers and students in the cloud.
Supported a health provider in the US Northwest to enable remote COVID testing and vaccine distribution in numerous outdoor locations. The CDW team worked with our networking specialists to develop a solution that would deliver the required performance and scale quickly.
Mobilized employees of a financial services company to work from home. CDW developed the right solution across client devices, remote access, security and its data centers.
A Texas-based grocery store chain needed help with expanding and quickly scaling up its curbside order pick-up program. With the help of CDW, the company deployed additional mobile devices to allow employees to fulfill more orders with shorter turnaround times and expand its “contactless” grocery experience for customers.
The global pandemic affected every community in challenging ways and our coworkers have supported and improved the communities where we live and work through a variety of programs. CDW pledged financial support for COVID-19 response efforts, which included coworker matching gifts to charitable organizations that coworkers care about most. Other ways our teams gave back included:
Held our annual Fun Drive over the summer virtually in partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. In over 30 years, CDW has helped raise more than $10 million in support of their important work.
Our Chandler, AZ team donated 100 meals and CDW water bottles to frontline workers at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Our Corporate East Region team launched a fundraiser to support frontline healthcare workers at hospitals across the Northeast.
2020 brought challenges and hardship like never before, but through it all we still saw the good. For CDW, it was a year of CDW champions. Our coworkers grinded through unprecedented challenges, while fiercely protecting our business, our customers, our partners and communities. And we continued to stretch ourselves and support each other, with grit and heart.
