What is a skill you’ve gained as an Intern that you are using now?
Throughout my internship, I was able to really get a feel for the role and understand our value proposition and our capabilities. This has helped me tremendously as I’ve been able to articulate this to my customers and form better relationships with them.
"Put yourself out there as much as you can and make as many connections as you can during your time as an intern. Many of the connections I made as an intern really helped me during my transition into the Account Representative role and helped to give me a leg up."
– Alexyn Steiner, Corporate Account Representative at CDW
What is your biggest piece of advice for a student going through the interview process?
My biggest piece of advice for interviewing would be to practice answering questions using the STAR method (situation, task, action, result) with someone, or to yourself in the mirror. I know nerves can be high during this time, I’m definitely guilty of jumbling up my words because I’m so nervous. This way, you have something prepared and not trying to come up with the answer to every question on the spot.
How would you describe CDW’s culture?
Like a family – that may ring truer for me because my dad has been with the company for over 20 years, but many of our coworkers have. It’s rare to see a company where people stay so long and not only that, I’m one of many second generation coworkers which is even more amazing. CDW really does feel like a family because of such deep connections and having so many people looking out for you.
What was your favorite memory from the summer internship?
My favorite memory from the internship was our internship summit in NYC. I loved getting to meet with interns and coworkers from other offices, as well as many of our partners. All the activities we did were really fun and allowed me to make great connections with people I’ve kept to this day.
What does a day in your role look like?
A typical day in my role starts with me opening all of my applications. I see what meetings I have for the day and check if anything in my inbox needs my immediate attention. From there, I try to keep my mornings to proactive activities like call or email campaigns on topics relevant to the industry, to book meetings with customers. My afternoons are more for reactive activities like quote and order requests, working on projects, and training opportunities. My meetings are usually scattered throughout the day, so I try to fit everything in where I can. I think everyone has a different system that works for them for managing their day, the biggest thing is just to stay organized and on top of it.
