Meet Ebony, an Account Manager at CDW

October 4, 2023  |   Careers

Years in this role? 3.5 years

Go-to emoji:

Favorite mid-day snack: popcorn or pretzels with Laughing Cow cheese

What are you listeing to while you work: usually a podcast like Pod Save America or The Money Guy Show

Explain the Account Representative (AR) role to someone who is unfamiliar with the industry.

The AR role combines technology sales, customer success, project management and consulting all into one.

How did you decide to pursue your specific career? What pivotal moments pushed you to where you are now?

I didn’t originally see myself in a sales role but through the excellent training and support of my managers and peers, I’ve been able to thrive in this role and haven’t looked back! It was difficult starting out in a brand new, fast paced environment while having to quickly pivot to remote work during COVID lockdowns. That time forged my success because I stuck through the challenge and came out a better Account Manager on the other side. In January 2022, I was also able to join a new HiEd team that exclusively serves Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

What would you say is the most difficult part of your job, and what fuels you to continue?

Working for a company that is always expanding and changing can be challenging since there is always some thing new to learn or a new way to approach our customers, but that is also motivating because there is endless potential and opportunity if you get after it! I am re-energized to continue by thinking about all that we can do for our customers.

"Working for a company that is always expanding and changing can be challenging... but that is also motivating because there is endless potential and opportunity if you get after it!"

What does success look like in this role and how is it measured?

While metrics, like the numbers of calls you can make in a day have a certain level of importance, I measure my success in the quality of relationships with the customers.

What are some must have resources that you would recommend (books, podcasts, certifications, tools, etc)?

Your peers! There are so many coworkers at CDW who have been with the company for 10, 15, or 20+ years. There’s a wealth of knowledge that exists within the people sitting to your left and right or that you interact with over Webex.

What is the best advice you’ve received/heard that you would tell your younger self?

Be patient and trust your intuition!
